Quickie question about night lighting

Postby Staiduk » Mon Nov 10, 2008 7:48 pm

Just a quickie question: Anyone know if it's possible to backlight the control panel of an aircraft? I'm fairly certain it's part of the model and therefore not; but it's best to check. ;)

See; the Dodosim 206 I've fallen in love with would be great with backlit gauges; but it doesn't have 'em - so I'm curious to see if I can mod 'em in. :)

Cheers!

If the gauges are backlit when designed, then they should backlight when the cockpit is dark. With .gau and XML gauges, there is a 'luminous' switch that is normally incorporated, that syncs with the 'luminous' command in the [color] section of the panel.cfg file, to provide the backlighting colour shade (the figures are the RGB values).

If the gauges aren't illuminating, then maybe the original gauge designer didn't make them luminous. You can check this out by temporarily replacing one of the gauges with a stock M$ gauge file which will illuminate. XML files can be amended to incorporate this switch fairly easily, but decompiling .gau files is a different story, I think.

Hope this helps.

Helps a lot, Microlite, thanks. :)
It looks like most of the guages in the 206 are stock; so they're not backlit. I'll do some tinkering; and see what I can dredge up in SimV's Utility section - there's gotta be a gauge editor in there somewhere. :)

Heh heh - learning's fun, innit? ;D
