Are you sure this doesn't depend to something different?
Logically, a complexer mesh is also "complexer" in taking more cpu time and memory than simple stock mesh...  ;)
I can't believe that this scen reders faster due to high-res!
But can you give me a link to this? I'm interested now :D.

Dunno. (frankly, I don't know what a mip is, but I do know that my video card software has it's "mipmap detail level" set to quality.) Don't get me wrong, I'm happy this scenery renders like it does, I was just hate not knowing why! Oh well, I'll just call it "gift horse" and leave it at that! ;D
