Postby JLangholzJ » Tue Feb 06, 2007 8:26 pm

this is for any and all of you that work with gmax:

i have succesfully made my pylon for fs2002, but when i scale it and export it into a .bgl file, however, it is either 3x too large, or way to small. any suggestions?

You can change the scale of the object when you create the XML file.  Look at where it says, for example, scale="1.0" and modify that till you get what you want...

You can scale the actual model in gmax.  I always build my gmax objects to real size (or near as I can establish from research) as objets are created with accurate dimensions.  If you have not done this, then find out how big the opylon should be, create a box this size in gmax then scale your pylon to a simliar size.  Then just export, with no need to mess with the xmll file, and place if FS. :)

Hi there fella!

What format are your textures in? To display in FS8 they must be bmp's with 8bit (256) colour depth. In your photo program there should be an option to "reduce colour depth" or similar, in photoshop I think you need to change the image mode in the adjustments tab (don't quote me on that!).

I use 24bit bmp's in Gmax and for keeps in my scenery's design folder and then save them to the FS texture folder using irfanview (excellent free image viewer etc) in 256 colour mode. For final export you can save the bmps from the 24bit colour versions using DXTbmp, which saves in an extended format which improves FS loading times or something like that lol!

Hope this helps!
