OBI with RMI, incorrect default for IFR

Postby dir » Fri Nov 24, 2006 2:14 pm

Hi,

I've noticed that in all the panels I've seen, the OBI is set to receive signals from the Nav1 feed, which is useless for IFR cross-cuts & fixing. It should be fed from Nav2. Presumably, this is an MSFS default.

Anyone know how I can set the default correctly, for FS2K4?

It finally dawned on me what was wrong here.

Good to hear you got that sorted out . . .
As a realworlld instrument rated pilot and aircraft owner, I've flown FS9, IFR since the day it came out -- July 30, 2003 -- and have not noted any such anomalies.

As a real world airline pilot, I noticed the anomaly on day one of flying FS2K4.

I eventually realized that the FS 'problem' I described above, was due to the incorrect naming of gauges in the panel.

The subtleties between OBIs/CDIs/RMIs/HSIs/OBSs/VORs etc etc, are often misunderstood (understandably) by panel designers.

When I realised the 'offending' OBI Nav1 gauges were named VOR1 etc, it was easy to correct.

However, a basic IFR panel may well have an OBI fed from Nav1 by default, of course.
