Need help with FSSC

???I am trying to learn how to use FSSC and can't get through the first example in the tutorial without trouble.

Under the "Basics" I go along fine until I get to the portion called "creating the ground" and I'm unable to texture the polygon around the runway. I try to follow the instructions but where it is supposed to show "grass.r8 " it doesn't give any options for anything - just a big blank.

I'm sure that there is something that I am doing wrong but cannot seem to find it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Gringo6

Sorry but I have not used FSSC for ages and my question would be why you are trying to learn FSSC which is now really out of date albeit it was great in its time.

In order that the scenery you create is as up to date a possible can I suggest you use:

AFCAD -

Thanks Birdman, for the list of other programs that are available. I don't really think I want to get that involved at this time. If I can learn just one simple program then I think it'll do what I want.

B/T/W - I got the problem solved somehow. I really don't know what I did, but after shutting down the computer several times and restarting the program it decided to work. Now if I could only get the airplane to start at the end of the runway I'd  be fine.

Thanks,

Ooop's sorry Brittair. I didn't mean to call you Birdman but I read your message in a hurry and was depending on a 79 year old mind which failed me this time.

Please accept my apology for the mistake.

No problems! ;D

I can understand that,  I just thought you may waste a lot of your time learning something that is out of date and to be honest FSSC is in someways harder than AFCAD etc.

I for one found GMAX to be a hair pulling experience, but then I have never used any kind of 3d drawing software before which is probably why. I practically pulled every hair in my head out trying to build the P-38 in the gamx tutorial but for love or money allways ran into trouble with the fuselage I just could not do what the instructions said to do it would not work no matter what i tried. It took me forever to finally get the wings right. I did manage to build the house without a whole lot of problems except I got the textures wrong the first time I did them I had put them in the wrong place so the texture for the front wound up on the roof which I have to agree looked really wired seeing a door on the roof and windows as well but I managed to fix the problem and now use the house as a line shack at my base airport.
I have since bought the gmax bible and as soon as I get up enough courage plan on going through it. 8)

The first go at Gmax is hard going.  I just worked through the tutorials and after a few days had the basics.  I think you keep learning with Gmax and working with Stevo (a master with Gmax) at UKscenerydesign we have created a HAS with animated doors, working floodlights etc. for our new RAF projects.

It looks more daunting than it really is. I learnt all the above combination and from scratch and manage to create and release my RAF Tinwald Downs scenery in about 3months.   Before I had used FSSC and FSDSv2 but would never go back.

Anyway garymbuska, enjoy reading the gmax bible but if you can create a house your doing well personnaly I would I have never tried a aircraft and never will!
