"im going to try to make a scenery file for my home airport"

What an intersting choice of words.

Now, if you want to 'make' the scenery including objects and textures I'd recommend FSDSv.3 (payware). If on the otherhand, you want ot 'make' scenery.BGL files using already available models and textures, I'd recommend RWy12 (FREE) or EZ-Scenery (payware). EZ-S is easier to use and uses a GUI to place objects into your own creations.

Also, make sure you get AFCAD if you want to edit the runways, taxiways, NDBs, VORs, frequencies, etc, etc.

Hi Lilley

Welcome the world of scenery design.  This is link to the UK Scenery Design site were Birdman has done an excellent summary of the programs out there to use.

http://www.ukscenerydesign.co.uk/forum/ ... ic.php?t=3

I personnaly use:

AFCAD2 - Taxiways, Runways etc
Gmax - To make the MDL object like Hangars, Buildings, Masts
Paint program to make textures (most will do)
DXTbmp - to convert 24bit bmp's into a format used by FS9
Anros Obplacer - To place the MDLs in FS
Excludebuilder2 for excluding unwanted autogen scenery
Tree Planter 4
Sbuilder - for VTP, Flattens etc

This combination is mainly simple to use and understand programmes with the exception of Gmax.  Gmax takes abit more learning but is very rewarding and in reality only takes a few weeks of get to grips with it. :o

Have Fun
