change default airport coordinates in FS9 ?

good evening all,

in FS9,  Base Teniente Rodolfo Marsh (ICAO=SCRM), a Chilean Air Force field in Antarctica, is plotted in the wrong place (one end is in the water) in addition to not even being drawn, the airport ref. is there, just no tarmac.

So, I set up to create my own version of it, but my question is, wouldnt it be easier if I could just change the coordinates of the default in FS9 rather than having to create a new one with the correct coordinates, tarmac, etc.?

If I do create my own airport to replace the default, how can I avoid having the 2 airports showing "side by side"?

By creating a modified version of a given airport, does the default airport get "hidden" or overriden by the modified one?

inquiring minds want to know.

thanks in advance.

A person could answer this the easyway or the hardway:

IMO, don't mess with default (numbered) airport AF2 files. The best way is just create a new AF2 airport (File/Creat New) and by default it will be placed in Addon Scenery which takes first-priority over default FS9 airports. This is why we can add so many AF2 files (to Addon Scenery) without ever having to remove the (numbered) default airport.

Try it. All you have to do if you don't like the result is remove the AF2_NEW.bgl you just created in Addon Scenery.

WARNING When selecting a name for your new airport, be certain not to overwrite one with the same name already in Addon Scenery.

Running a program called ScanAFD will check if there are duplicate AF2 files in FS9

Hi 5thranger.

You can move it very simply using AFCAD2 and then add what taxiways etc as you like.

OPen FS, Open AFCAD (just search for SCRM) and move it.  I did this quickly in a few minutes.  I trust you are aware of AFCAD etc

You would also have to exclude the deault buildings and place you won etc..

Interesting wall of water :o

Hope this helps

A flatten switch should be created as well (as shown); the terrain to the south has a serious dropoff; thus, the south end of the moved runway will hang in the air. I placed an exclude switch at the very top of the Scenery.cfg file and could not get FS9 to remove the default scenery objects.

Good Luck with your SCRM
P.S. I added the lighting to my new AF2_SCRM and created a new scenery folder
