scenery .dat File

what are they ,  when you design a scenery , do you  need to include a .dat file in your final scenery.zip file ??
I don`t think so, but anyone can clarify this  a little

No, you don't need to include one.

.dat files are generated when you start up your FS with new scenery.

I always suggested to everyone that when you added new scenery, delete the .dat file in there and let it generate a completely new.
