Problem: .BMP to .gau

I`m a newbie with panel design and i try to repaint some gauges. When i repaint a panel and i will convert it to .gau
all the tools(gau2bmp, Gaum98 or gaumod) have the same
problem. They message is: "done"
But after i have copy my gau file in my gauges directory
and i start my fs(2004) i never see any changes.
I always see the old one(i have overwrite my original .gau).
I know these tools are for fs98 - 2000. Can I use these tools for fs2004?
i had copy the files from the vb5rt.zipto to my System directory and i`m using winXP...
