Is it possible to copy fs2002 ground textures from the sceneryb\world file and use them in fs2000? I checked the images from both sims and they are both 256x256, 96dpi, the only difference is that fs2002 ones are 32bit colour and fs2000 are 8 bit colour.

I'd guess not because of the difference you've noticed. But if you've got both sims, why not just backup the original files in 2000 and just do it. You can't break it. Just make sure you keep the old files in case you have to replace them ;)

if you have photoshop or any good paint program you can easily convert them and perhaps even batch convert them
(search for 'gimp' paint program its as good as PS but free!)

cheers,
