modifying existing scenery

Postby brettt777 » Wed Dec 08, 2004 9:30 pm

I am wondering if these scenery programs (gmax, FSSC) can be used to modify existing FS9 scenery. Specificaly, to make a building larger. (I grew up  in Seattle and know that the Washington Mutual Plaza in downtown Seattle is MUCH bigger than what is displayed in FS9. The Washington Mutual Plaza is the third tallest building in Seattle and in FS9, there are many buildings that are taller than this one). Can I use one of these programs to make this building it's correst size?

Not directly, no. There are different ways to approach it.

1. Use FSSC or Airport to place a small exclusion over the building, make a replacement using GMax, EOD or some other object builder program, create an API (macro) of the object and place that where the original building was in FSSC/Airport.

2. If the building is a 'featured' one in FS9 (eg a special scenery object like the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Empire State etc) it's possible you can use one of the tools that are now available to extract it from the appropriate FS9 world scenery bgl and replace it in it's original spot, but bigger, using a tool such as RWY12 or SceneGenX. You may or may not need an exclusion again for the original, but you shouldn't as you would just place the replacement on top of the original and cover it.

To do either you'll need a bit of scenery design knowledge which means you'll have to roll your sleeves up and start doing the reading and the tutorials  ;)

You would have to learn GMax to create a Godzilla model as I doubt there is one already available for placing in FS2004  :)

Then you would export it into the game using the MakeMdl SDK and the established tools.

Quite a lot of effort.......

Sounds like you should either make your own game from scratch, find a similar game already made or give up ;)

I can't believe that FS2000 is perfectly adapted to
