Gmax questions

Hi All

Rather than learn Gmax for a couple of small objects I
need someone has offered to make them for me in Gmax or 3Dmax. :-)

Questions.

1- I take it 3Dmax (Gmax's big brother) can't export to FS9
but can it save the file in a format Gmax can import?  If so
what is the best format. This will save him from having to
install Gmax.

2- This fellow is not a flightSimmer...he does not have FS
installed. Can he save it in the default Gamx file format
and send it to me or more to the point will I be able to
then export the file to FS9 (I have Gmax installed)?

3- If I am able to reload the file and save it as a file FS9
will "understand" what is it I need to give it a scenery
object ID?  Or is that what happens when you export it to FS9?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You will need the FS2004 SDK for GMAX in order to export to FS2004.
As far as the other question sorry I do not know that much about 3DMAX I do not know what type of file it is capeable of exporting and if gmax will inport that file.
I would suggest he make a simple object export it then see if you can import that. If not than he will have to use GMAX.

Gmax will only import *.gmax files, unless you go find an exporter that will let 3DSMax export into that format.

There are importers for Gmax that will make it accept *.3ds files, but you'll have to search the net for them.

Tell your friend to install the Pandasoft Xfile export plugin or the X file export from the DirextX SDK into 3Dmax. From there he/she can do all the work in 3Dmax and then export to an X file and send it to you. You will be able to run MakeMDL.exe as a stand-alone application and load the X file. Once the X file is loaded treat the export as you would any object coming from Gmax.
