Firstly, I don't know as I have no experiance with Aircraft design but I have a feeling that is not possible as it is part of the model of the aircraft.

Secondly, what exactly do you plan to do?

I think what you need to use is FSSC available from here: http://www.fssc.avsim.net/

That should get you started! You can use all the texures used in the sim, and if those aren't enough you can make your own.

If you need macros (Buildings etc.) other than the ready made ones included with FSSC then Easy object designer is excellent. Available here: http://www.echos.ch/eod/
Or of coarse there are lots available to download!

Let us know how you get on. If you need help you've come to the right place, I've had lots of friendly advice and help getting started from everyone here.

Good luck!

Im afraid I have no nothing of that kind of 3D stuff at all! Im sure it is possible though, and you would be able to create much more detailed macros thats for certain!

The file type is a .api if that helps. If no-one can awnser this here you might want to ask in the 3d and Aircraft design forum.

Usually, an apron is added using a polygon. It can be altered to any shape you like.

This is definitely possible. If you go to scenery properties in the edit column of FSSC you can uncheck the box exclude visual scenery in the exclusion tab. This is only a problem with FS2004 as the visual scenery is handled by a different system. Even then as long as an Area16BGL doesn't go any where near the scenery that shouldn't really be a problem either!

I have a feeling there is a clever way of placing things exactly in FSSC by adding two macros onto the area or airport in this case and taking a top down screenshot. Then load your screenshot into FSSC and matching the corresponding bits of scenery to where they are in the screenshot. Then you have a scale and you can add stuff like extra taxiways and aprons precisly where you want them. I think there is something about this in the FSSC help file/tutorial. Hope this is of some help.

I've just spotted this thread. I don't know much about 3D applications like 3D Max. I think the best way to do what you suggest would be to import the file into Gmax for texturing before exporting in BGL format via MakeMDL.

A complete airport update created with Gmax is bound to be graphics intensive & affect frame rates. You might get better results with conventional scenery design applications like Airport for Windows, FSSC, EOD & AFCAD. IMHO
This is how 99% of the scenery files posted on this & other sites are created.

For the first question, in the aircraft.cfg file, there is a virtual cockpit section (i think) simply copy and paste this into the new aircraft, but make sure you delete the old VC. and as always, back-up!!!

The virtual cockpit is part of the visual model & not all 3rd party aircraft have one. If the aircraft has a DVC you can swap the gauges by editing Panel.cfg but it's not possible to add a DVC or change the interior view.
