Adding VFR Photo Scenery to CFS2

Postby sibar » Sat May 01, 2004 4:59 pm

I tried to do the above and it doesn't seem to be compatible.  I used Grumpy's advice and the Doug Attrell scenery clinic, which were really good, but I just couldn't get any success, I am a beginner with scenery.

Both ask for feedback, and I thought this might be interesting as a first attempt at this particular union(apologies if wrong - I have looked).

So for anyone interested here's a summary of what I tried (and if anyone Does have an idea....) :)

Best wishes

--------------

I tried loading VFR Photographic Scenery for E and SE England, a scenery upgrade for FS 2002 and FS 2004 by JustFlight, into CFS2

I loaded the 1st disc and autorun did not detect FS 2002 on my system (I don't have it).  I used 'browse' to point it at the CFS2 folder and it loaded all 3 scenery discs (over a gig of scenery) willingly.

The main scenery files, textures and mesh were in the 'scenedb' folder.  There were a couple of other VFR files exlewhere.  The main 'scenery.cfg' in the CFS2 folder had updated itself.

I ran CFS2 and in free flight could not see any new scenery under any of the options.  I went to settings and the new files were in the scenery library, activated.

I opened free flight over Kent and there was weird blurry scenery there.  I slewed over to France (not covered by the new scenery) and forced a scenery reload - the defaulst global fields appeared as usual.

I went back to Kent and forced a scenery reload and got the same weird stuff.  There were big checkerboards and squares of brightly coloured rainbow dots and areas of total blackness - when I went low it was like flying in that final sequence from '2001 - a Space Odyssey', fun for a minute, but not really SE England as I know it.

I tried altering priorities in the scenery library and switching between using cache and scenery direct - no effect.

I went to the m$ page on importing scenery to cfs2 from FS 2000 and tried some of those steps, including re-editing the 'scenery.cfg' but no effect.

I went to simviation and read Grumpy's Lair and the Doug Attrell scenery clinic.  I followed his steps for installing the scenery and tried again - no effect.

All the above took about 6 hours.   ;D

At this point I am prepared to believe that this scenery does not work in CFS2.  However, just in case anyone has an idea or likes a challenge
