need help using CFGedit v 1.5 on FS2002

Postby A/SGT.Mav316 » Fri Sep 19, 2003 7:51 pm

I was asked to download CFgEditor to copy the AI radar guage from one panel and transfer it to any of the other airplanes in FS2k2 that doesn't have one.

I downloaded CfgEditor V1.5 and haven't a single clue how to use this program. Can someone help me out here with this.

I think you'll find most people here use Notepad to edit the cfg, but I could be mistaken.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

I have been off at the pub tonight :D so am in no fit position to reply; but CfgEdit will make editing panels much easier than doing it manually.  Help will arrive tomorrow . . .

Mav. You might have got a quicker answer in the Panel Design forum. Please remember that CfgEdit was intended for FS2000/CFS2 & the pevious sims. It will work fine for FS2002 (or FS2004) panels if you set the Mode to FS2000 & direct the FS Directory path to your FS2002 (or FS9) root folder. (From CfgEdit Options/FS Mode & Root Directory).
Open any panel.cfg to edit the panel. Gauges on an existing panel can be added/replaced/removed or resized. The UI is WYSIWYG & should be easy enough to figure out. More detailed instructions in CfgEdit Help.

CfgEdit cannot read or save XML gauges. This is not a problem if you're familar with manually editing panel.cfg. If you intend taking up panel design seriously you might consider purchasing its big brother FS Panel Studio by the same developer. http://www.cfgedit.com/

Thanks for the Tips Hagar, I think I messed up the installation of the program so I unistalled it. I thought everyone meant that on installation and it ask what folder to put it in, I thought you meant to direct it to FS2002. I understand the installation part now.

Set it to install into its own folder, then set the mode to FS2000, then direct it to the Fs2002 Aircraft panel of my choice that I want to edit.

Thank you I think I am starting to understand it now. My intentions weren't to create a whole new panel for the f14 tomcat. There is a guage in another panel (The AI tracking Guage - RADAR) that i want to copy or take from another plane. All I want to do is try and install that guage into the F14 model, so that I can use it while flying the F14 with Abacus flight deck 3.

I could really use your play by play on this Ender Baron. But I will tinker around with it for a while. When you feel better  :-/, get back to me. I could most definately use your assistance. Right now I will follow Hagar installation directions to just set it up properly. No rush ender baron, I know what it is to hang out at the PUB  ;D! Stay cool, talk to ya later man  8)

Mav. Check out my answer to your question in the Add-ons Wanted forum. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=otherad;action=display;num=1063682613
You can add that radar gauge manually to any Panel.cfg in Notepad. The instructions are included with the gauge. It's quite straightforward & much easier than learning to use CfgEdit.

I veiwed that radar you were talking,  :( it works but it is too complicated with all those numbers floating all over the place.  :-/ I researched old FS2002 panels and came across the AI radar guage I was using before.

It is in FS2k2 Panels page 11

The f16 panel by Eric Marciano with the Ai radar guage
I wanted to know that if by using CFGedit or the manual notebook alteration I can add this radar to the f14.

I am confused and lost  :(. I don't understand the CFGedit interface at all.  ??? I know some how that I am suppose to be able to delete a guages display to leave a void in the guage. Then find a way to fill that void with the new guage.

The other problem I am encountering is not knowing the name of the guage file that Eric Used for his AI radar. In using CFGedit and clicking on the add new guage option, it displays an image to associate with the file that you want to use. I cannot find the image of that radar anywhere in the f16 section of guages.

How does this thing work Hagar  :'( :-/

Okay, you seem to be asking how you delete a gauge from a panel once you have opened it.  Simeple, select the gauge and hit "delete".  If you're talking about editing the gauge itself, you can't do that with CfgEdit.  You would have to buy something like Panel Studio, or something like that.

Second.  Transplanting the gauge.  Many gauges won't show up in the picture because the interface is designed for FS2000.  Some FS2002 just don't like it.  Instead of going in and looking for it in the gauges section (mine contains approx. 1700 gauges), open the panel it came with and select the gauge, then press "Ctrl+C" to copy the gauge.  Now open the panel you want it to be in and press "Ctrl+V".  The gauge is now in your panel.  Just position and size it how you want it.

I will give that a try and see if it works  8) I have plastered the f14 panel so many times I don't know if I have messed it up already but I will give that method a try.

I will get to you later with the results.

Just in case it doesn't or does work, I won't use any unnecessary space for this image. Go to the Freeware Screen shots section.

I posted an image of the F14 panel using the Eric Marciano AI radar from the f16 into the F14 tomcat. It was a success! Thank you Ender Baron and Hagar. You guys have taught me well. I shall follow the path of the force wise ones!  ;D

p.s. : for goodness sake I give Eric Marciano props for his radar and I am not selling it, just copying for use in my favorite plane that I like to fly.!

Just in case you ever do screw up a panel and can't undo your mistakes, just go into the panel folder and you will see several panel.cfgs, with names like panel_0001.cfg (or something like that).  When you save a panel with CfgEdit, it renames th original panel_0001.cfg (or whatever) and makes the new one panel.cfg.  If you msee up, just rename the last one panel.cfg and it will all revert back to normal.
