Modifying Norwich

Postby Smoke2much » Thu Aug 07, 2003 6:26 am

I want to modify the City of Norwich and Norwich airport in Fs2k2 and haven't got a clue where to start.

Aha, did you see what I said in one of my last screenshot postings?

There are 2 main scenery design programs - Airport for Windows by Tom Hiscox and Flight Simulator Scenery Creator (FSSC) by Derek Leung. Most people including me on the forum prefer FSSC, but download both and play to see which fits you the most snugly.

You'll also need a program to create your own objects (buildings and stuff). For that you'll need Easy Object designer (EOD). You can use loads of 'other people's' textures that are already in your FS2002\TEXTURE folder - you'll be amazed. But when you get a bit more advanced you'll need a graphics program to begin making your own. I use CorelDraw but you can do a lot even with MSPaint (that you've got free with Windows) and Pixia, another freeware prog which I understand is similar to PaintShop Pro (payware).

Let us know how you get and ... and good luck.

It's great fun and one of the most satisfying things about FS. I guarantee the hair will stand up on the back of your neck when you see your stuff in the sim for the first time!

BTW - there is a learning curve but there are loads of people only too ready to help around here. We all had to do it!

Will. I would recommend FSSC to start with. http://fssc.avsim.net/
Very user-friendly once you understand the basic principles. For an idea of what can be done with it check out Bird Man's Bristol Airport scenery. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002scenery63.htm

PS. Oops. Sorry Roger. Didn't see you there.  ;)

It had been on my mind for some time, but your screenshot comment was "the straw that broke the camels back".

Thankyou for the advice gentlemen.  I will download the above programs and bore Sarah to death with them!

Mrs RollerBall is from Norwich - we met while I was working at Reckitt and Colman many years ago.

The people of Kent took her to their bosom a good while back but as I learnt to fly at Swanton Morley and regularly used to fly into Felthorp using Norwich to assist with radar let-downs into Felthorp if it was getting a bit dark, there are still many attachmentts to the old place.

I had a very nice FS98 scenery but it didn't like 2002 so I'll be watching your progress with much interest.

Good luck Will - don't hesitate if you need help or advice. If I'm not around at the time there are loads of others who can

This is getting spooky.  I live about 1/2 a mile from the Coleman's factory and Mr and Mrs Smoke2much are Both from Kent.  Canterbury and Folkestone respectively.

My first airport attempt, Silly International Airport, has worked and does exist but due to a slight mix up between feet and metres (the program defaults to metres and I think in feet) you need an international flight to get from the tower to the runway LOL.

Work will progress and I'll get Norwich looking spot on one day soon.
