Is it possible to use objects like houses, trees, fence and other stuff out of scenery that someone else has done and put it into mine and if so how?

Jonathon. Check out the API macros in the Scenery Design section. Here's page 1. http://www.simviation.com/fsdesign_macros1.htm
All these objects can be imported into Airport or FSSC for inclusion in your own projects.

Hiya Johnathon,

It is possible to decompile other people's scenery and as an experiment only, I have extracted one or two objects from a scenery using the software that's available.

However, it's not an ethical thing to do and if you wanted to use a custom object they created you would have to get permission from them in any case. Same thing if you wanted to insert someone's aircraft as static scenery.

I would say - if you want to use a particular object, email the designer direct. They will say Yes or No and you will then know where you stand.

I don't think you can extract 'special' objects from the default scenery but I may be wrong.

BTW - as Hagar says, objects like houses, trees, fences etc are mostly standard anyway and you can get the APIs from the Simv design section

My next scenery project (actually my first!) is to model my house with EOD and Airport 2.6, and attempt to put it in the right place! Inspired to do this after downloading some great extra London scenery, so I'm hopefully also (eventually) going to attempt some England south coast landmarks too. Brighton Royal pavilion, De La Warr pavilion - plenty to choose from.
:)

Hi microlight,

Glad to see you're getting involved in scenery design despite apparently from your personal text being somewhat physically disadvantaged and possibly suffering from a modicum of discomfort! There can never be too much good stuff around in my view.

Do your house first and enjoy the pleasure of seeing it right there in the sim. Then go onto the other stuff when you've begun to unlock the secrets and pleasures of scenery design. I guarantee you will enjoy it. It's great fun and unlike say aircraft, you can see your results much more quickly. Also there is plenty of scope and still a shortage of high quality scenery.

When you think about it, besides scenery special features like the ones you've mentioned which MS didn't include in the sim, every default airport aside from the major ones like KORD, KLAX, EGLL etc is only a rough approximation and is ripe for a 'real' scenery. That's 1000's all over the world!

Good luck and I look forward very much to seeing the results of your labours. I'm sure others do too.

Roger

Thanks for the encouragement, Roger. As you see, I've changed the picture and avatar in honour of my 100th post! The quote translated as 'when you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow'!
