How to make additions to bmp file on xml gauges

Postby Gringo6 » Tue Jul 07, 2015 5:26 pm

I am trying to make some slight additions to the background file ( a bmp file ) on an xml gauge in a
cabinet file and need someone to tell me how I can do this. I can extract the background file, use paint
to make the changes I want but I cannot re-insert it back in the cabinet file.

Will someone please tell me how to do this ?

Thanks,

The easy way to repack a cab file is to use the utility Cabpack. It was written a long time ago for Windows 98,
but it works fine on my Windows 7 64bit. I can't remember where I got it from so just search for Cabpack.
It's freeware.

I hope it works for you.

Paul.
Laptop computer W7 64bit + FS2004 + Ground Environment Pro + Active Sky + lots and lots of freeware.

Easy to use and user friendly.

I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. This drastically reduces the number of programs that
my machine will handle. I've lost the ability to run several of the older programs due to the 64 bit processing.
Also my F/S programs are installed directly on the hard drive instead of under "program files/microsoft games" so
this may also be part of my problem.

XML Gauges will work perfectly well from an ordinary folder. They do not need to be compressed into CAB format. Make sure you use a unique folder name for the folder containing your modified gauge. Use this name for the gauge in Panel.cfg.

To compress a folder into CAB format download the CabDir SDK here --> http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/resources/cabdir-sdk.32/

Run the installer & redirect the install path to a location outside your Program Files directory.
Open the extracted SDK & paste your new XML folder alongside cabdir.exe
Now drag the folder & drop it over cabdir.exe
Your new CAB file should be created alongside it.

I've tried this in Win 8.1 64-bit & it works fine.
