Kodiak CGAS Update

Postby CHUCK79 » Sat Apr 06, 2013 1:52 am

I know it doesn't look like much progress, but I've done a lot of work with the water masks and blend masks
as well as terrain polys for elevation adjustment and shoreline reshaping.
Here's some shots of what I had to work with:
Ultimate Alaska....

Surprisingly, default MS FSX did a better job, but still not really acceptable....

Here's a real world image (although it appears to be old):

This scenery will be compatible with Ultimate AK and default scenery. No patches needed
this time.....I found the gremlin that was causing my compatibility issues (operator error) :shhh:

The ground textures are lower res than my other sceneries, but I used the best freely available imagery
I could

I know I said before that I was almost ready to start modeling buildings, but I wanted to go back and get
all the terrain and water done and behind me so that I don't have to dread doing it later. A few minor things to do
and then on to hangars/buildings....this one is pretty expansive since the airfield is used by several agencies.
Should be fun 8)

I'm still working on Fairchild.......nearly done....haven't forgotten the tanker guys ;)

Thanks 4 looking :D

Hehe, not surprised by the lack of RW pics of Kodiak CGAS. Not much time to have fun there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/coast_guard/8427301561/
I did try to E-mail a friend of mine who is stationed at Kodiak. He responded short, I got sent to Casco Cove Attu CGAS in BFE Alaska   Nuff said, see ya in 1 year at Corpus Christi TX CGAS. My guess is he self volunteered, I wouldn't lol.

I don't know if there's actually a gantry crane in that hangar, but it's my best guess as to what the two humps in the roof must be for......extra structure for a crane?

You don't happen to remember do you? Regardless the crane is staying so I guess it doesn't really matter

@USCG76....check your PMs. I've sent you a link ;)

Only a few buildings done, but I'd like you to test out the terrain modifications to make sure they look correct on your set up.
Do you use Ultimate Alaska, an add on terrain mesh or just default Alaska scenery?
