In my tests prior to release the only way I could solve the sinking aircraft was to do this. Not the Ideal solution I know but otherwise AFCAD seems to be unable to control the modified height.

Bird good news - sorry I thought you knew.

There's a prog called JaBBgl that now lets you change the height of any airport in a jiffy. I've used it for my old Leeds, Cambridge and Humberside sceneries and it works a total treat - one of the best little utils I've come across in ages.

Doug, you shouldn't need 2 AFCADs at all but I think this was Arno's short-term solution to the problem before JaBBgl. Obviously it's not needed now. In any case, apart from the AFCADs, in FS9 you put ALL the scenery files for an add-on scenery into its scenery folder. I've done this with my 04 Kai Tak but not the 02 version. And this included navaids (which was how I got the Kai Tak navaids working I think before anyone else had worked out how and was just waiting for Lee to do AFCAD  ;) )

Also, I've not issued them, but I found after hours of experimenting  ::) that the 02 type dynamic files (the ferries and fuel truck) which had to go in special folders in 02 also work when you bung em into the addon scenery scenery folder.

Good stuff eh? Makes it soooo much easier.

Thanks Roger. I must check out this JaBBgl you mentioned. There's certainly some clever people about. ;)

Now, if only everyone could agree on the best method for installing this stuff we might be getting somewhere. I'm not confident that will never happen. ::)

Ah, Doug, this is where it's all becoming so much easier.

Like I say, AFCAD files in the scenery subfolder of addon scenery, all other files in the scenery and texture folders of the addon scenery. Nothing need go outside in the main sim except things like effects.

BUT....wait for it. Once everyone gets to grips with XML and AFCAD and Airport (not too sure about FSSC...) have been updated to be full scenery design apps, there won't need to be any more separate AFCAD files.

Everything for a new addon scenery including navaids and stuff (you haven't seen my carriers yet) will go in a SINGLE bgl file so every addon scenery will just go inside addon scenery and have only a scenery and texture subfolder. In theory there need be only 1 bgl file in scenery (in practice there will be more files for other technical reasons I won't go into) but now you see why there is the move away from BGLC to XML.

Anyone who's installed Kai Tak in 02 and then in 04 will already have noticed how much simpler the 04 install was, and it's going to become simpler still.

Only problem is, in order to go into object libraries, all new objects will have to be created in GMax. I for one don't have the time to learn what is I think a grossly over-complex object design prog so I suspect my days in scenery design are already numbered. Maybe I'll then be able to get a proper life back!  ;)

Spot on. Isn't that just a great little prog. Bet it only took you about 5 mins to do eh? Maybe a little bit longer as it was your first (and also making allowances for your advancing years..... :P )

LOL ;D About 10 minutes. ::) Mind you it takes while to start up the sim each time you change something. That's my excuse & I'm sticking to it. :P

It's a great little program alright. I remember the name Jab from the old days. JabGau98 was the best gauge manager I ever tried.

PS. I popped the AFCAD BGL into the Bristol Airport\Scenery folder. It works just fine. This makes it even easier to install. The benefit is that it would go back to default if you deactivate the 3rd party scenery.

Don't ask why I put that extra folder in! I must have got a little confused with what I had to do to make it work!

I don't think its wise to put all the scenery into the communal addon scenery/scenery and /texture folders. This would make uninstalling a nightmare! Although putting the entire scenery folder into the addon scenery file would be better - but each to their own.......

If you look in AFCAD Help this is what Lee Swordy recommends for installing 3rd party AFCAD files included with scenery. Not the scenery itself. I'm in no position to argue with him.

JaBBgl creates a backup copy of the default files it modifies. If you keep these in a safe place it would be a piece of cake to restore the default altitudes if you uninstall the 3rd party scenery.
