Designing new airports

Postby Capt.Propwash » Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:51 pm

Dave, I hope you dont mind me borrowing this from another post, but... i could use a little help.

Download ExcBuilder v2 here-http://www.scenery.org/design_utilities_b.htm-extract to a folder of your choice. Simple instructions in the readme... file.

Download the FS2004 Bglcomp SDK here-http://www.scenery.org/tutorials_fs2k4_SDK.htm-Run the installer. It will install files, including bglcomp.exe.

These are for FS2004 scenery design. Different downloads are required for FSX.

If you're project(s) include a new airport, or putting your missing town 'on the map', there are other tools that may be required for flattening, land class, and object placement. While there are small programs that can do each, the Sbuilder program can do it all.

Dave

I have just downloaded the ExcBuilder, and the BglComp SDK; however, if you or anyone else could please point me in a direction for a "FS MotorGrader" Land Flattening program and one that could allow me to put my new airport on a map I would worship you as an FS God!

Thank you in advance

To flatten you can use FSTFlatten found here. http://home.earthlink.net/~smgreenwood/flatten.shtml. Download the file named 'fstutilities.zip'. Use the 'Area16N method' to

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

If I may recommend a product for placing scenery, EZ-Scenery (abacuspub.com) is a very nice tool.

I used RWY12, and its a great freeware product, but I hated having to guess the orientation of some objects, trying to remember that, and having to reload the sim to see the results. EZS is real-time and is done within FS. You can download a free trial at abacus. It only took me a few minutes of using it before deciding to buy it. It lets you place all default FS scenery (except some major city objects are area-locked), and works with add-on libraries. I use the RWY12 libraries with the software. I think its about $30.

You'll also need FSUIPC (for fstflatten and Afcad to connect to the sim). If you don't already have it, get the latest version here-http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html. v3.90 for FS2004. Note: you do not need to purchase/register FSUIPC, simply install the .dll module per the instructions. Purchase is only necessary if you want the advanced FSUIPC features.

I agree with brant that a 'live view' object placer is much nicer to use, if you want to spend the money. I use and recommend Flight 1's Instant Scenery-http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=instscen.

Identical to EZ Scenery in use, has a couple more advanced setting. It can read any object library, including those for Rwy12 and EZ Scenery. Works in FS2004 and FSX. And it's 5 bucks cheaper!!
