Designing scenery

Postby FsNovice » Sun May 28, 2006 12:20 pm

I've seen many people designing scenery for airports and extras for Flight Simulator. Can someone suggest how i can get started designing scenery. Thanks

Well, as a start, you could begin using AFCAD (found here on SimV), which will modify airports that you want to have ATC, Navaids, etc at.  It will also allow you to add parking for gates and such, as well as anything else needed to land any aircraft at that airport.

That's just a starting point.  There are many other types of scenery design programs and such out there, ranging from extremely complicated to downright For-Dummies stuff like Runway 12 (an object placer program) or EZScenery (a scenery modifier program).  Many are hard to understand, but it takes a bit of time to get all the stuff down correctly.

Why not try Runway 12?  I believe you can get it here at SimV, but if not, try googling it.  Get all the stuff you can on it and try it out.  Its one of the best programs I've ever used in regards to scenery enhancements.  I even went so far as to start creating my own stuff to place with it.

Or you can use Gmax and place the objetc with object placer.

Here is a link to the UKSD forum which includes a summary Birdman has done on scenery design programs available and also a few other little tutorials and helpful info.

http://www.ukscenerydesign.co.uk/forum/ ... 44cdc81671

There is a few ways of doing this and everyone has there own preference.  I now use the following:

AFCAD -  Runways Taxiways etc
Gmax -  Models
Photoshop and DXTbmp -  textures
sbuilder - VTPs underlays and flattens
Excludebuilder - excluding default objetcs
Treeplanter V4
Objectplacer by Arn0 -  to place Gmax mdls

Hope this helps and have fun.
