Andrew,

You should probably state what your design objectives are. To just make airports or 3d environments like this:

http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum ... 48599.html

For just airports there is Airport For Windows, Flight Sim Scenery Creator and ScenGenX, just to name a few.

To build unique objects will require a bit more work and a program like gMax.

All of these are free. So it is just a matter of what you want to do and how much time and effort you are willing to invest to learn the processes involved.

I'd like to be able to obtain a color sattelite or aerial photo of about 20 sq miles of my local area and place it exactly where it's supposed to go in MSFS 2004.

Is that possible and what is needed?

so far i've only been able to get black& white aerial photos from Terra Server.

Lurch,

You are asking about making terrain and not scenery. I would suggest starting with the Autogen SDK, Custom Terrain Textures and Terrain SDK files from:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsi ... ds_sdk.asp

and

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsi ... ds_sdk.asp

These will give you a good basic knowledge of what you need to know and a starting point of how to get there.
