Whats the Best way to make terminal buildings

Postby jwebley » Mon Dec 13, 2004 9:44 am

Hi Im new to scenery design.  I do have a lot of cadd experience and im starting to design airports.

I very much like AFCAD because of its ease of use,  but I need to know what software would be best to design somewhat realistic terminal buildings.  I d like suggestions on freeware to get me started,  but also payware that works the best.

Thanks in advance.

In terms of freeware I think there is a programme called Easy Object Designer (EOD) that has been recommended loads in this forum  There is also GMAX which comes free with FS2k2 professional and I think you can also download (not 100% sure in this) ???.

In terms of payware the Flight Similulator Design Studio (FSDSv2) for Abacus, which is what I use and fined it pretty good.

I think AFCAD has its limitations to just runways, taxiways etc and to place macros (buildings created in FSDS etc) you are better using FSSC or Airport 2.6 ???  I use FSSC and found very simle to use but other will also recommed Airport.  I think everyone has there own ways of doing things and preferences.

Have fun!!

For FS9 (As I assume this is for) I believe AFCAD2 is your best choise for runways & taxiways. EoD is a lovely little program & should be fine for most macro purposes!

If EoD can't do what you need to do and your looking for something a little more advanced have a go with GMAX or FSDS2. Never needed them myself - I like to keep things simple without troubling the brain too much  ::)

Anyways - you can then place the macros with FSSC over your AFCAD2: http://www.fssc.avsim.net/

If you would like to change the ground type (fields etc) then EZlandclass is what you need: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004utilities1.htm
Requires Excel though - i suppose it may work with other excel alternatives - dunno though :)

You can of coarse use FSSC or airport for the ground etc (which is what I do) but you wont take advantage of the lovely new smooth taxiways AFCAD does for you!

Hope this helps!

Brittair has the method that I use. be sure to name your project with different names for each sceenery placeing program you use. For example I usally use The airports name for the Airport for windows compilation and "Airport objects" when using SceneGenX to place default objects and "Airport signs" when using Creatsign. If you don't do this one programs .bgl will be overwirten by the others.
Be sure to download the current version of each program from the authors website. Airport for Windows is ver 3 built 192 and SceneGenX is ver 1 build 32. Also go to Abacus and get to update for FSDS2.

Ive been able to make good airports with afcad,  but im not sure how to get the airport to show up in Airport for windows.   How can I get the airport layout to show up in AFW so I can place the buildings I made in  EOD on the Airport Layout?

Thanks
