Aircraft repainting in FSX

If I want to try to repaint some aircraft how do I do it for FSX, Ive read the tutorials at the top of page but this is for 2002-2004, I presume its different for FSX, please help, which programs are required etc,

Well, it's pretty much the same a it was in FS9 with the exception that textures for FSX native models use a different file extension (.dds)...I'm not quite sure how different the format is from .bmp.

All you need is an image editor (I use GIMP) and DXTbmp (The newer versions can save in .dds format).

The BMP format is compatible with FSX, but DDS loads more efficiently, so I would use it.

GIMP is a powerful image editor, but takes forever to load, so I use Paint.NET, which is as functional as GIMP. And free as well. It is also easier to use than GIMP.

djbozz, all images must be uploaded to SimV. That includes your signature and avatar.  ;)

I use GIMP for its layer ability and of course DXTbmp.
I should probably get around to uploading some screens of my textures seeing as they are available to download from this site.

Thanks for the pointers, Im trying a Cessna for fun at the moment, im using DXTBmp & Photoshop CS4, Should be ready for screenshots soon :)
