Lear 45 FSX

Postby Hangman » Mon Aug 31, 2009 6:38 pm

I'm trying to do a repaint of the FSX Lear 45, I picked up the kit available here and I don't think it's the right one..I think someone took a kit for the FS9 version and has psoted it as an FSX kit and it doesn't work, as far as I can tell.. the fuselage is mirrored and it creates an extra door on one side that shouldn't be there...anybody have a clue as to where I can find an accurate FSX blank texture?

Welcome to the challenging world of repainting default planes.

The texture mapping for the Lear did not change between versions, so you have the correct texture sheet.

The rectangle under the 2 forward windows is mapped to the area where the wing root meets the fuselage on the texture sheet. This is to allow for a decal to be displayed properly on this side of the plane for one of the default paints.

The gold stripe on the upper section of the door puzzles me a bit as that door is mapped to a specific spot on the texture sheet, kinda between the texture for the engine and the horizontal stabilizer.

Fixing the missing stripe on the airstairs is a tough nut to crack because that spot is a copy of a spot closer to the nose. And it's pieced together so one spot on the texture sheet covers 3 sections of the plane, side by side.

It also appears the outline of the emergency hatch on the other side of the plane is showing on this side.

From my experience trying to paint this plane everything I see in your screenie is easily fixable except that stripe on the airstairs. That might take a little work including fudging your stripe a bit.

Hope this helps,
Joe

Please don't link images, it slows the forums down for other users.

Many thanks

Thanks Joe, it does help...at least knowing this is supposed to be the correct texture...and this is not my first effort at repainting default aircraft, I've done quite a few of them and fortunately most of them were pretty workable..if they were as messed up as this texture I probably would have done the smart thing and quit a long time ago..lol

I knew about the rectangle under the windows,

the gold stripe on the door is my first effort at trying to place it as it should be showing at the bottom of the door, I have no idea why it moved itself to the top which was one of the reasons I thought it was the wrong texture..

I've got a feeling your gonna be right about fixing the spot on the airstairs, ti shows on the other side of the aircraft just not on this side..I'm going to have to take the gold default paint and overlay it on my kit and see if I can figure it out I guess.

thanks again for your response, and Ozzy sorry about the link, did not know.

Instead of using the default texture as an overlay, might I suggest you go to this link - http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/ ... eneral-12/ and get the PanelFinder. It is a useful tool for figuring out mapping issues.

Hope this helps,
Joe
