Paint 'conversion'

Howdy guys!

I don't usually venture into this dark scary corner of the forums, but I have a question, so I took the risk  ;D  :P

Unfortunatly I don't have the ways, means or skills to be able to do this, and so I hope someone could help me out.

I have the PMDG 747 and my main virtual airline I fly is Malaysia Airliners.
Tom Haarlar has an amazing paint for the POSKY 747 in Hibiscus paint, but I would love for it to be on the PMDG! I have looked at the paint kits and would presume it would be a simple job of copy and paste.

I know that there is a Hibiscus repaint for the PMDG but it is no-where near the standard of Tom Haarlar's one.

If anyone could do this for me, or even explain to me how I could do this with something like Infranview, I would be very grateful.

All the best,
Alex  :D

Hi Alex. As nobody has answered this I'll have a go. There is nothing dark & scary about repainting aircraft textures. Anyone can do it. You need to know your way round a graphics editing program & learn a few basic priciples. You also need a modicum of artistic talent.

I don't have either version of the 747 you mentioned. It's very unlikely that you can transfer textures from one version of an aircraft to another with any success. The way the textures are assigned to the two models would probably be completely different. IrfanView would not be the ideal program for doing this. Several more suitable freeware graphics editors like Gimp & Pixia are available but you obviously have to know how to use them.

I understand Hagar, I will have a go with GIMP.  :)
I know there was no chance of simply putting the POSKY paint into the PMDG folder, but would it be possible to cut parts from the POSKY paint and paste them into the PMDG paintkit?

Thanks,
Alex

You don't even need a complicated graphics editing program to do that! It can be done with paint. (I think I would even prefer paint for this kind of work!) ;) I think your chance of succes is pretty slim though, but, as Hagar said, by all means try! ;)

Hi Alex, yes you can copy parts from one paint to another within the same paint program open both your textures that your working on and select the part of the paint you want then copy it to clipboard, then minimize the one you just took it from (dont close it you will lose it) then select where you want the paint part goin then go to edit and paste it into the selection and that will put the paint part you sent to the clipboard inti the selected part. phew anyway were was i ................... ::)

Cheers
