Such a broad scope to your question: Flyable or AI? The advantage to repainting AI planes is they show up at the most unexpected times and always sporting a great paintjob!

My signature pic is a Kluas Bosemann's PC-12. The paintkit is easy because it's one-piece Fuse_t and comes with a sample already repainted. Klaus Brosemann and Mal Lloyd have teamed on many AI models.

For simplicity in repainting look for one-piece Fuse_t paint-kits.

mike stones aircraft are simple and easy enough to paint.

www.pmstone.com

almost all the a/c come with a basic paint kit included.

If you use psp or photoshop, then I may have a layered kit you can use with will make things a LOT easier and better looking end result.

Aircraft Texture Repaint Kits is the title of SimViations Help file at the top of this forum.

Some of the links get pretty complicated so one may want to go directly to CalClassic's Repaint tutorial. The link to Martin Wright's DXTbmp(x) program is there and DXTbmp is required to convert BMP Extended file formats to 24bit (or 32bit, 256 or other) for use in any paint program-of-your-choice.

Have fun and let us know how you get on with you first repaint (or simple modification of registration numbers).

First, figure out what sort of planes you like to fly.  It's always more interesting to repaint the thing you enjoy flying most.

Check the link in my sig file for another how-to-repaint tutorial, using the default Extra 300.

I'm just starting out on repainting myself and I'm using a P51D modeled by Roger L. Dial I believe.
Its the same model as used the the P51 Reno Air Races package, and many other mustang repaints.
It uses one main graphic for the plane repaint, and that alone makes it simple to use.
I've been using PSP 5.01.  Yes its very old, but very capable and intuitive.
