It basically depends on what painting software you already have.

Suggested painting software is one that has layering enabled.  At a bare minimum, you can make do with MS Paint, but you also need a texture converter to convert the bitmap textures into something your paint program can recognize.

The most recommended converter is Martin Wright's DXTBMP (which you can download through the Simviation Design Utilities page.

There are several good image editors out there, such as Paint Shop Pro X or Photoshop, both of which are very intricate and take some time to learn (and cost a buttload of money as well! ;)).

You could also try FS Repaint, which was designed for repainting in FS specifically.  It will show you the aircraft as it would appear in FS, as you paint it.  In 3D and everything!  It doesn't cost too much, and it looks pretty cool . . . I've never tried it, though.  Free trial lets you repaint stuff but not save it.  It also cuts out the need to know how DXTBmp (or any other converter) works.

What? Hey i got trouble too!

YO!

Hey each time I try to repaint a plane and i open up PSP it look so small, and if i zoom in it is really hard to see the textures, i will take a pic of it and show to you what happens.

Its best to have a program with layers but MS Paint (which is aready on your system) works okay.
I use it for FS2004 since I don't have the money for any of them layering programs like paint shop pro.

Woody8767  for  powerful  paint programs with layering and other capabilities, check out Gimp! and pixia, both of which are at your desired cost.... they're free.  Check the Design Utilities pages here in Simviation.
