Bitmaps

Postby RitterKreuz » Sat Dec 31, 2005 2:19 am

Im really ignorant to aircraft repainting so dont laugh. it seemed like i used to be ablt to open aircraft bitmaps in MSPaint - repaint them as i wished - everwrite the files and bam it was done. I think this was FS2000?

Why cant i do this with 2004? I tried but i end up with front to back gray plane.

All i really want is an American Eagle paint scheme on an ERJ-145 only the text should read "American Connection" INSTEAD OF "American Eagle"

American = Red Connection = Blue

Seems like a simple edit, but im stumped.

Any help would be appreciated

Mr. Ritterkreuz has committed a Serious Offense...  fixing a problem without saying HOW....

WHile many of us have had similar problems, maybe he found a different solution?

After one has read Martin Wright's explanation of various FS texture-file formats there's not a lot left to say about it.

Suggested reading should start with: "Probing Further -- Tech-notes:"

all i did was this exactly

1. Download DXTBitmap (Several Links in this forum)

2. Using DXTBmp I Opened the aircraft bitmap paint scheme i wanted to edit just open a planes texture folder and find the fuselage file if thats what you want to change

3. I exported that file to my editor - MSPaint

4. after making the modifications i saved it as an easy to find file in an easy to find place Like "LOOK_ITS_ME.BMP" on the desktop or something
haha

5. Open that file in DXTBmp and click save as extended bitmap... then i just put it in my texture folder for the aircraft i wanted changed, named it "Fuslg_T.BMP" or whatever it needed to be named to over-write the current file

6. Opened the aircraft CFG file and added the aircraft there changing the texture assignment

7. Opened FS9 and there she was

If you want i can give more detailed instructions but it seemed pretty easy given what i wanted to do and that was just change some text on the fuselage mostly.

Thanks, Ritterkreuz - it's the same thing many of us do on a frequent basis....  but who knows, you may have found a new way to "skin the cat" !!!
