I like the 777 a lot ...

I like the 777 a lot ...

so I took one of the 777s made by Mel (Meljet 777: http://www.meljet.com) which is one of the best models out there...

Then I took one the skin of a cargo company (I like that skin): http://www.atlasair.com.

... I decided to cheat and make an Atlas Air 777 which doesn't exist in real life ...

You can find screenshots here:

it looks REALLY good in my opinion even if it's a fake ...

Be nice this is my first skin in flight simulator that I manage to make look halfway decent and it's all thanks to the fact that meljet's models are so well organized from a texture perspective.

What do you guys think?

Should I put it up for download? Even if it isn't a real skin?

I post pictures here if I have time ... It was late last night and didn't wanna bother.

It takes a while for me to upload the pictures on this site, then figure out the urls, etc.

On my site it's a snap (since I have direct access to the server). Copy and paste.

Here's a couple anyway:

Looks nice, Marco, but if you got rid of the alpha completely and instead added a gradient (which would create dynamic shine itself) it would look much better.  ;)

I am a tad new at this "alpha" stuff ...

The Alpha patterns come in different files than the ones I used. These textures came from the Mel-Jet repaint kit.

So you are suggesting that I blank out the alpha files? (I am assuming I can't really remove the files since they are directly linked within the model file).

Also, I understand what a color gradient is ... but a gradient needs two colors right? the base color and the color you'd be "gradient-ing" from (that's now a word I know). So what would be my base color in this case?

Transparent?

or am I confusing myself?

Yes.

Yes. Just create a grdient that goes from grey to transparant.  ;)

Fascinating ... and the gradient "layer" would be lined up with the fuselage and other items (a different gradient shape for each fuselage section)?

Thanks for the help! I shall try this!

PS: If anybody has any way (or time) to tell me what the heck Alpha is supposed to do "in a nutshell" that'd be great ...

The alpha layer sets the level of reflecivity. White is no reflection, black is mirror-style.  ;D 8)
