Hi Sam,

First have a look in the Repainting forum down under aicraft and scenery design. There's also a tutorial available on the main site too that should be able to get you started.

Cheers,

Charlie :)

I use a payware software proram called paint shop pro 7, and although slower than using photoshop, I havent mastered photoshop yet. It takes a bit of time to repaint aircraft, but it is rewarding

Heya Sambcfc,

Like SaVas I also use Paint Shop Pro 9 and DXT Bitmap v4.0 for all of my repaints.  If I fly an airliner, I'm not going to fly a commercial aircraft.  I'll repaint it into a privately owned scheme (from ideas that I get from Airliners.net).

Some examples of my work:

Airbus A-300

Posky Canadair CRJ-600

Saab 340B

J.R. Lucariny's Douglas SBD-5 repainted into a US Navy scheme (#18 of VB-16 USS Lexington, Saipan, June 1944)

It's a lot of work to repaint an aircraft, however, once you're finished, it's yours to enjoy!

The internet is rife with websites dedicated to repainting aircraft. May I suggest starting your quest by searching google for 'repaint aircraft'.

The first google-search site to come up in my browser is this one. This site says it far better than I.

If you are looking for freeware programs to repaint aircraft's, then you should use "BMP2000" to open the FS2004 aircraft texture files, "MsPaint" To paint the aircraft, "DXTBMP" to add alpha layers & "Imagetool" to covert the texture's back to DXT3 format.
