Photoshop 7 Bmp's

Hey,
I own Photohop 7 and decided to finally start repainting my own aircraft. I have been reading some tutorials and all of them say that you should just click open the "B737-400T" file. I tried to do this with Photoshop 7 and got an error message stating the following...
"Could not open "C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Desktop\fs9\aircraft\b737_400\Texture\b737_400_T.bmp" because of a disk error."
I have looked around and 'googled' it and can't find a thing. But consulting the pros here at simviation seemed to be the best thing to do. I'm sure there must be some other people with this problem.
I also acquired DXTbmp becuase everyone has said it is a must-need. And I was able to open the file in that. So I know that the file isn't messed up... or so I think.
Thanx in advance!

Your half way there! once opened in DXTbmp (or imagetool) you then need to save it as a regular bitmap (save 24bit image) to be edited (in psp, photoshop etc..)then... once finished you need to open your bmp in dxtbmp, and save it as an extended image (as dxt3 or 32bit)

THANK YOU! That is a great help and I am sure ready to make some quality repaints being that I have a large amount of experience doing them...
One more question though... Is it a difference if I were to save it as a DDS texture? I know Photoshop can handle that type of file...
Just a thought
Thanx in advance!

Sorry i dont know about dds, I use PSP, but save as PSD, and load the psd files strait into Imagetool. I havnt figured out alpha layers in imagetool yet, so i still use dxtbmp for that.
You'll have to let us see a few screenies of your re-paints :)

dds files are used by CFS3 for plane textures. The other sims CFS2 FS200* cant read that type of file. Save your work as a PSD file like igorski said.
Happy painting

I don't think you can add alpha's to textures using Imagetool, but I could be wrong

Stick with DXTBmp

Hi,
This has really helped, but, I have another question, I am trying to make a US airways repaint, and the writing I have seen, moves past the first part of the fuselage, or past the blue line in the following picture, what should I do as there is no mirrored image of the second part of the fuselage (the pink part). Have a look.

Okay, again, I am trying to add writing that flows along the length of the fuselage past the blue line. I know the front part of the fuselage has a mirrored image for the other side, but there is no image where the pink part of the fuselage is. What should I do to put writing along there. Thanx in advance

Are you sure you followed the guidelines when posting pics?
They need to be 800x600 or less and under 80Kb

Try posting it again

Hey,
Okay, let's try this again. I think maybe the problem was that I named it a .jpeg not a .jpg. If this works, it is that. I checked the file size and it said 60.1 KB. But i made it smaller just incase.

Okay, again, I am trying to add writing that flows along the length of the fuselage past the blue line. I know the front part of the fuselage has a mirrored image for the other side, but there is no image where the pink part of the fuselage is. What should I do to put writing along there. In short... i dont think you can im afraid. Any text that you put on the purple outlined bit will appear on both sides, most likely written backwards on one side.
I suggest you get a different freeware aircraft to work on. A swift search on simv, or any other fs site will bring up many results.

Hey,
That's okay with the repaint. I was trying to make a U.S airways repaint...and the writing goes unfortunately far down the fuselage. Oh well.
Anyways, My painting skills are pretty good and I am hoping to make more repaints. Here is my first completed repaint...

Thanx
