There are mainly two ways to make baremetal.

I assume you know your way around ur painting program.

The first one is handpainting..

Basically you either use a gradient then u pick colours from the photo. Then you have to start dodging and blurijng and smuding until it looks good.

The second way is photoreal..

Here you cut a piece of metal from the fuse and clone it across the fuselage..using the eraser and clone tools to make it look good. You might have to use smudge and stuff to make everything blend in.

Now onto the alpha.

Most people use a SUPER Strong alpha layer. But i would not recommend it. The alpha layer does not show at night or at dusk.. making ur plane look like painted grey at night :P However, I suggest a medium alpha to accompany the bare metal :)

Bare Metal is never easy. I suggest looking at Daniel Halpern(SGA) or Ben Hewitt's(POSKY) textures. They are good baremetal painters :)

ok i reloaded the orginal texture and saw that it was allready a form of gray, so i just added an alpha channel with DXT by double clicking the alpha channel in the upper right hand corner then i painted it all 128 128 128, then i imported it and this is the result i cam eout with whats goign wrong here

WOW a new stealth!

I've had invisible parts to planes using Alpha, so it could be that the aircraft is not set up to use an alpha layer for reflective textures (bare metal)

Just to check:

The way i get my bare metal is:

Create base bmp of the part to be make reflective and save

Mark on same bmp where to be reflective and fill black (or a gray shade for part reflective), make rest white, then save as A DIFFERENT file, eg texture_alpha.bmp

This alpha picture should look like a greyscale version of just the parts to be made reflective.

Load DXTbmp, open base bmp (not alpha)

in DXTbmp find Import alpha layer and select the Alpha leyer bmp I made before.

Save as the correct aircraft texture file.

Repeat for all textures to be reflective.

Go fly!

From your screenshot it looks like you'r not being selective over which parts are being made reflective. Though it may be that the aircraft does not support reflective textures.

Hope this helps

Is that an old FS2000 aircraft?  I have experienced this probem several times before.  The model was created with some program specifically for FS2000, and then when FS2002 came out the aircraft was revamped for the new system.

Inigo,

the plane will appear transparent because it does not support reflections(as mentioned above)

So, all planes which are FS2000 and below(FSDS models) will appear transparent if you apply an alpha layer :)

Don't know how much help this will be, but if using FS Design Studio, you can try texturing the necessary aircraft parts - create a texture file, BMP format, 256 x 256 pixels, in a neutral gray colour, and save it in your FS Texture folder.
