open texture BMP:s

I have a question. Might be stupido but I have to ask.
I use adobe photoshop 5,5 or illustrator 10 to repaint
planes but still dont know how to open most texure files. I can only repaint BMP:s that i can preview.
The files that shows as a BMP ikon i can not open.

Do you need a special program to open fox example the original boeing or cessnas texture files and how and where can I get this.

OK I found a program that converts the files so that
photoshop can read.

But however an other problem occured.

On the default boeing 747-400 there is a decal
for exampel.  GLOBAL freightways. How do I write over
this or make it transparent or something. no matter how the original decal is there one way or onother.
