to repaint any default planes you first need to dld the paint kit for it. if it exists. This is because it makes you life a lot easier ;)
They can be found here:
http://www.simviation.com/fs_paintkits1.htmThen, Do you have a paint type program, eg paint shop pro?? etc. this is what you need to paint it.

The files that you need to paint need to be converted using DXTBmp which can most probably be found somewhere here ::)

You can't use Gmax as it's a 3D designing program, you can use Photoplus or Pixia, both programs are freeware. It would be better to go for a program like Paint Shop Pro though.
Photoplus 5.5:

Another free paint program not mentioned is the Gimp. A search on google will finde the down load sight ; gimp.org I think.
The gimp comes in two basic forms, one for linux and a version for windows. Although the learning curve for the program is rather steep, it will get the job done.
I used the gimp for a few years and found it to be fully functional. The only problem is their is no tutorials for painting FS aircraft. So recently I was able to find a Paint Shop Pro 8 disk at Amazon for under 30 dollars US. Now it is all I use.
Clear Skies,
