Buy FSRepaint from abacuspub.com for $29. It comes with instructions. Works real good and lasts a long time.

Have a look at http://www.calclassic.com/repaint.htm for some tutorials about repainting aircraft. You also need an image converter, try DXTBmp and Imagetool. Imagetool comes with one of the Microsoft SDK's, DXTBmp you can download from http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/. You will also need a painting program that supports layers. Get Paint Shop Pro if you can, otherwise go for a freeware program like Pixia http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/.

You don't need to buy anything to repaint.

All you need is a good painting program (which can be freeware) and dxtbmp, which is also freeware.

JASC has a time restricted full featured trial of PaintShop Pro, but after that you've got to pay for it.  Paying for your programs, is not required though.  There are many free programs which do the same things as the others.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.
