as most of you might know - i sertainly can hold my own when it comes to repainting! heck, i even have this funky banner at the bottom (see bottom of post)  ;) :P

BUT...

Ive started repainting my Vintage aircraft collection, and i dunno how to get the planes looking 'well used'

if anyone has any effects and how to paint them
that would be much appreciated.

eg...my RAF Corsair! its a bit plain!

There's a couple of good tutes covering this subject. You might like to try our own Hugh Shoults at Gryphon Aviation http://www.simviation.com/gryphon/Tutorials.htm or Eric Joiner at Aluminum Cloud. http://www.aluminumcloud.com/skinning.htm

you want to put some rivets and bullet holes the whole works in..maybe add some grain to the textures to make them old looking might be an idea to download existing old warbirds and see how there done

If I'm not mistaken, Daz uses PhotoShop.

Ah, just wondering because I have a Screw and Rivet tube that he might like, but they're for PSP. I'm not sure if they would work in PhotoShop though ???

yeah i use photoshop i dont use very many effects in photoshop i just use the paintbrush and line tool to create anything i need.. a good way is to observe photos of the aircraft u are painting and try to draw on what you need... take a look at this photo.. http://funix.chez.tiscali.fr/aviation/i ... orsair.jpg

you will notice the paint coming off around the panel edges...this is a good effect for old fighter aircraft. also i would recomend dirtying it up a bit as the green is a bit clean and untouched for this sort of aircraft

im currently in the middle of a spitfire repaint derived from a previous repaint just sharpening it up an adding "oldness" to it check it out

notice the wing textures i havent started on yet but the fuselage is finished...this is the first part of a big project i am working on which will inlcude 30 repaints of real WW2 spitfires and full decriptions of each aircraft and its history. they will all be MKI / II spitfires as i think theyre the best.

need any help with the corsair gimme a shout

hi,
the corsair is sorted  now. it is an fs9 model.
i was just wondering how to get the effects rather than what they are?

thanks

apoligies i misread the question erm hard to say realy as i use photoshop and u use paint shop pro never used that program before its just a matter of painting in the effects and it will take a long time but results will be worth it i normally use an almost opaque brush and hand draw any dirt or weathering in when im sure there is an easier way to do it but im still a novice when it comes to repainting

edit.. just took a look at the links hagar gave.. there great introduces layers and such to repainting and im sure the principle is the same for paint shop pro as it is for photoshop

oh and if possible stick some alpha channels on they are great for any aircraft to give reflection from the sun...post us a screenshot of your finished product
