Texture not on plane...

Hi everyone (again),

I downloaded a couple Antonov AN-255's, 1 was a 'standard' version the other was a GMAX version of the same plane. Both have civil cargo variant and a Sov Space Agency variant with the shuttle on the plane. The textures on the 225 itself is just fine, but with both versions, the shuttle shows up as all black. I checked the texture files, there are 2 in there for the 'payload', and opening them up with DXTBmp, I saw that the shuttle HAS a full color texture with all markings.

Any ideas on how to fix this so the shuttle has it's texture?

   Thank you, and Take Care.
Sue

Hi Sue. My first thought is that the shuttle textures are in the wrong format. Try opening them in DXTBmp & save out as Extended Image. DXT3 is the FS9 default format or you could try DXT1 Opaque. Make sure you save them in the correct location with the original file names.

If that doesn't fix it tell me exactly where to download the aircraft so I can check it out.

Hi Hagar,

THANK YOU!  Your suggestion, by itself, didn't work. And my last ingenious idea, by itself didn't work. BUT, put them together, and I've now got a shuttle!

OK, that was confusing. The 2 shuttle texture files are: payload_l  and payload_t . One of these is solid black (payload_t) and the other is the 'real' texture. Earlier, I got to thinking that the 't' ending might be for 'transparent', and if it was, and since my shuttle showed up solid black the files were backwards. So, I switched them. I got a texture, but it was an overall grey. When I tried your suggestion, I switched the files back the way they came, and got the black void again. I switched the file names again, after doing what you said, and now it works! Not a bad bit of reasoning for someone who's only had FS2k2 for 2 weeks, huh?

Again, thank you very much. Without your suggestion, it never would have worked.

   Take Care.
Sue

Hi Sue. Glad you fixed it. Well done. ;)

For future reference _T is usually the standard texture & _L is the night texture.
