8 bit textures?

Habu gave me permission to repaint his Lakenheath Strike Eagle but I'm having some issues. It looks fine in my paint program but I can't get it to show properly back in the game.

The A-10's that I've reskinned are fine when I use DXTbmp to bring them back but this doesn't work for the 8bit textures. Is there a "how to" on this format?

I just emailed Habu but I know he is very busy with this recent project and this forum is very helpful.

Appreciate any direction or advice, I found some awesome decals to use and can't wait to get some real strike eagles in US units  ;)

Hi Planespotter. Not all graphics editors save in 8 bit format so it would depend on which one you're using. It should be possible to convert any image to an FS Extended BMP format with DXTBmp. Some 8 bit textures might be transparencies & would need to be saved in the appropriate format with the transparency value defined in order to display properly. In most cases it's not necessary to repaint or modify transparent textures. Without any knowledege of this particular aircraft I can't be more specific.

Holger, thanks for the help.
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002military31.htm

the file is the 3rd from the bottom. It's the only True E model out there so I would really like to get this to work and can make all the E units out there for AI.

I'm using Photo studio by Archsoft, it's a digital photo software but works with layers and I can open PSP files.

Appreciate any help you or others can offer on this.

You don't say which sim this is for. I've downloaded the aircraft & don't see a problem. The wings & some other textures appear to be in standard 8 bit BMP format. If your Photo Studio won't save in this format save the repainted textures as 24 bit BMP & load them into DXTBmp as a normal image. Then save them out in an appropriate Extended BMP format.

FS2002 Pro includes a utility named Imagetool. This is similar to DXTBmp but will convert standard BMPs to 8 bit format. I believe Imagetool is also included in one of the new FS9 SDKs.

If you tell me the file names of textures you're having problems with maybe I can be more help.

OK. I downloaded your textures to check them out. Somehow you saved them as 8 bit with an Alpha Channel. The easiest way to fix it is to load each texture into DXTBmp (File/Load Normal Image) then File/Save Extended Image in a format without an Alpha Channel. DXT1 Opaque works fine for me.

Note that frontside1.bmp should be saved as frontside2.bmp to display.

Hope this helps.
