New skin won't show up...Help.

Postby camshaft » Wed Dec 10, 2003 11:25 am

I am a 'proud owner' of Photoshop6, (I do not have PSPro), I've followed as many of the tutorials as I can find, and converted the instructions for Photoshop. Painted a nice texture, saved it in BMP form, it's about the same size file as the original, put it on the plane...... nothing. I've fiddled with it as much as a person who never had the Photoshop instruction manual in the first place can, and still the texture does not show up on the aircraft. Any ideas anyone?

Depends on what aircraft its for, but I bet the textures need to be in DXT3 format and they aren't.  DXT3 is what FS uses to make reflective textures, using an alpha channel that is the reflective layering.  The darker the shade on the alpha channel (256 grayscale) the more it relfects.  Black is mirror and white is matte.  I would suggest you go find this item and also read up on any repainting documentation you can find.

Also, make sure the aircraft.cfg file is in the correct order.  If something is out of whack in the ui section (the one that has [fltsim.x] at the beginning) then there will inevitably be problems.  You have to set it up a certain way.  I don't have enough time to show you how right now, but I will return later today to see if you have figured out the issues.

Got it. Thanks.
Whilst looking through the tutorial i have on my computer, I finally saw an obscure line that said DX3T, like you said,  so I found the utility and....Bang... The textures showed up. Thankyou for the help, it was invaluable.
