Hi all,

I was wondering how difficult it is to make repaints: so here are some basic questions:

Which program does one use to repaint?

Which models can i repaint without copyright problems ( i want to start small than go to jets ( how about the default planes?)

Where can i find a manual on this?

Thx in advance

Howdy!  Great to see yet one more enterprising newbie trying his hand at repainting!

First off, you can use any paint program to repaint aircraft, provided you download DXTBmp first and then learn how to use it.  Anything from MS Paint to Paint Shop Pro to PhotoShop will work just fine.  Look around on the net to get DXTBmp, and then read up on how to use it.

Provided you do not post your repaints of aircraft, you can repaint anything you want until you get things how you want.  With the default aircraft, you can simply post without asking permission (right guys? ???) but with downloaded aircraft, you must ask the authors permission.  Usually an email address is provided in the readme stuff to tell you what you can and cannot do with the aircraft.

A manual?  Check my signature.  There's a link to a really good repainting tutorial.  Or check www.freeflightdesign.com for more.

I'm going to try and give repainting a shot too!!
I have many ideas and now have to figure out how to release them!!!
Other than the DXTbmp file, is there anything else that one will need in order to accomplish a repaint?
I already have the DXTbmp file, PSP8 and no social life, so am I ready to embark on a new experiance?
Also has anyone ever published a actual book or manual on this topic? And if so where can you get a copy?
Thank you in advance!!

Hi Guys. It all depends on which sim you have as while the basics are the same for all, each has its own little differences. The graphics editor (paint program) you use adds another variable. It's really not that difficult once you understand the principle & the various FS texture formats. Providing you're familiar with the tools & features of your own choice of graphics editor & have a modicum of artistic talent, actually repainting the textures should not pose much of a problem. Unfortunately, although I know more than most on this subject I am severely lacking in artistic talent & will never make a repainter. ::)

Fretnstuff. As you're using PSP & assuming this is for FS2002/4 I can recommend these 2 tutes.

There are many more posted in the SimV Help section & on various FS/CFS sites. Also browse through the various topics on this forum.

Good luck. ;)

Thank Hagar!
I've checked out the first link, now I have to get more printer ink!!!!
I'm planning on using PSP8 and yes it is for FS9.
If and when I get my first repaint done I'll be sure and post it. So I can get some comments and suggestions.

If you want, we can also to our best to confuse you, and set you to wondering "Is that answer to the question I asked?" ...
