repaint file format questions

Hi
I was trying to repaint a Squirrel, but am having a bit of a problem.
I copied the texture folder and added the info in the airplane cfg file- that worked
I opened DXTBmp- imported the first texture (load normal image)
- sent it to the editor (photoshop)- made the changes  saved it,
reloaded the texture in DXTBmp after I edited it-
that all worked fine.

Now here is the problem- trying to save the image and have it be recognized in FS. The original file is a 8-bit, Bmp...there is no option for saving it as a 8-bit in DXTBmp. After opening it as a normal image and sending it to Photoshop- it became a 24-bit image. If I use that option to save it, I can give it the original texture file name, but it does not show up in FS- the Helo shows up with no textures on it.

Open to suggestions on what I can do ~;o)

I'm assuming this is for FS2002. Try saving in one of the Extended Image formats. Experiment to see what's best. (Keep the 24 bit images as master copies.) The FS2002 default format is DXT3 with Alpha. If the original textures are 8 bit they won't need an Alpha channel. Something like the 565 format might do it.

PS. I would have thought a pro graphics editor like Photoshop would have a Reduce Color Depth option. You should be able to save out direct as an 8 bit standard BMP.
