Green tinge to repaint????

Hey guys,

I've been repainting for quite some time now, but was hoping some of you other guys could help me with a little problem I come across every now and again.

Sometimes after I have imported the .bmp back into the texture dir, then go and view the aircraft - the panel lines have gone from grey to a slightly weird greenish colour, as well as some smaller areas on the textures themselves.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to stop it from happening.

I currently use Paintshop Pro to paint and DXT BMP to transfer etc.

Thanks.

Try this and see if it helps any....

Download the MakeMDL SDK or check your FS2k2 directory for a folder called "gmax". Inside the folder, and the SDK is a program called ImageTool. Once you've got that, you can probably fix it. Load the offender into ImageTool, and use the Extract Mips feature. Locate the largest mip (it'll be the same size as your original) and save that under the same name as the original. Fire up FS and eyeball it.

I had the same problem when I was repainting the FSD T-38. The gray panel lines would turn the white aircraft a weird green color and fuzz up the image. After killing the mips, I haven't had any image fuzz or funny colors show up.

Enjoy!

I think this is most likely caused by repeatedly uncompressing/compressing Extended textures, particularly those in DXT format. Each time you do this the quality will suffer. It's best to work from the original uncompressed texture if at all possible. Save a copy of the first repaint as 24 bit & work from that each time you wish to modify it.
