When a texture says it is "photorealistic" does that mean the painter paid great attention to detail or that the a/c has actual textures somehow pulled from photos, and if so, what is the best way to go about this in PSP?

I don't have PSP, but photoreal textures are usually from pictures you take yourself or find on the net.
When you get the pics, and if you got shots of most of the important parts (tail and such) just paste them and later fit it to the part (tail to tail for example). Since you probably can't can't find top and down shots, you gonna have to make this by yourself, using regular paints or taking parts of pics that are in the same colors as you need and work it out on PSP.
as you can see here, a good painting job can create an "almost photoreal" textures. I didn't used pics there:

good luck

Yep, well said Erez. In PSP you just take a good pic of lets say, the side of a fuselage and you 'cut' it out using the Selection tool or freehand. then you can copy-paste onto a texture.

Okay!  Thanks, guys.  Now I just have to find some (decent) photos of an Osprey--the ones I have found are terrible for my needs.
