How to repaint and edit the .CFG

Postby EirePlane » Thu Dec 19, 2002 2:59 pm

I have seen this question asked so may times so I thought I should post the answer here instead of replying to everyone who asks, so here it is.

Painting
If you repaint a great plane yet it shows up as blank on Flight Sim, doad DXTbmp from http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm.

1. Open the texture as a normal image

2. Save as an extended image

3. Start flightsim as normal

Making your plane appear in flightsim as normal (FS2002)
1. Open your plane's .CFG file in notepad

2. Look for the lines

atc_id=
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
ui_manufacturer=
ui_type=
ui_variation=

3. as an example I will use a Concorde in the PEPSI livery
on the line "atc_id=" I will type the tail number. The line now looks like this
atc_id=F-BTSD

4. on the line "atc_airline=" I will type the callsign of the plane. The line now looks like this
atc_airline=PEPSI

5. On the line "atc_flight_number=" i will type the flight number. The line now looks like this
atc_flight_number=1123

6. On the line "ui_manufacturer=" I will type who made the plane. The line now looks like this
ui_manufacturer=British Aerospace

7. On the line "ui_type=" I will type the plane's model. The line now looks like this
ui_type=Concorde

8. On the line "ui_variation=" type the plane's paint scheme. The line now looks like this
ui_variation=PEPSI cola

9. Start Flight Sim as normal. The plane will be under the directory
Manufacturer       British Aerospace
Type                    Concorde
Variation              PEPSI cola

Hope this helps

Mitchel,

You forgot to mention that if somebody has created a new texture folder eg, texture.test, that in the aircraft cfg the texture line should read

texture=test,

NOT

texture=TEST

OR

texture=Test.

It must be in the same case as your texture folder.

Another common mistake. I know I've done it myself in the past

Piggin. I could be wrong but always thought CFG entries are NOT case sensitive providing the spelling is correct. I must check this out.

yeah I seem to have forgot that but it never seems make a difference unless you have a fewrepaints of the plane

Bugger, :-[

Your'e right Hagar, not case sensitive at all.

Still for the sake of consistency and all that ::)

Also got the point in about remembering the taxture file in your cfg.

I recently loaded a new 757 livery, but none of the textures load. I've looked over the Cfg file and it looks ok. any ideas???

Zman,

Can you post a copy of your .cfg which relates to your texture.

Also give us the name of the texture, the name of the air file and the name of the model folder (and file in that folder)

See if we can help. ;)

Zman,

You say the textures don't load. Could you be more specific.

Is it that you don't see the planes and/or associated textures on your list of planes. If this is the case, change the editable to 1 from 0

Do you see the plane, but it is grey? If this is the case then as far I've I screwed up in the past it could be one of three things.

1) Is the texture file spelt  the same (numbered the same) as in your .cfg?

2) I see you have two models. A PW and RR. Have you correctly assigned them, indeed do you have two model folders in your file? I had a problem only yesterday where I had incorrctly given a plane a GE model assignmnet when it should have been RR. Might also be wise to check that you have a model .cfg in each of those model files.

3) Have you checked the texture folders that the texture names fit with your model? A difficult one if you don't have a previously installed 757 that does show up and that has the same bitmap names.

If your problem is that when you select from the list, the plane doesn't show up and the game kind of hangs, then your sim line doesn't match your .air file

Try these and let uis know, what happens. If it still doesn't work, post where you got the file and the name of file and I'll download it and try to resolve it that way for you.

Chrz
