How do you make worn textures?

Postby hertzie » Mon Nov 11, 2013 11:58 am

Is there anyone willing to teach me how I can make a plane look worn? (Like Michael Roberts' P-61 Black Widow).

Regards, hertzie (erik hertzberger).

You need to add new layers with sprayed on grey and white are at a high decree of transparency...10-20%

Make some black too in the same way.

All these on top of the main livery layers

Try and shape them in a way that matches how the wear and fade takes hold of the real subject...used pics as a guide.

Thanks !! I thought it was a bridge too far for me :D :D

But you can learn a lot, and have to start somewhere, so is there any tutorial that can help me on the way?

Are you familar with creating a new layer in your paint editor and what it does.
Do you know what the Opacity is then for that new created layer.
What are you using for a Paint Editor if I may ask.
Thanks for your time.

Hi FoMoCo63,

No, I'm not familiar ^-^ . In fact I'm acomplete newbee in painting. As I try to convert as much CFS2-planes to FSX, which process is now familiar to me, I would like to go a step further, for in my idea (but who am I ??) those planes looked a lot more worn in real than they do in fligtsim.

As a painting programme I've got Paint Shop Pro from a friend.

It would be great, but maybe I ask too much, if I could have a tutorial with the basic steps, so I can do my best to go further by using the "trial and error-method".

Thanks for YOUR interest,

hertzie.
