Crash?

Postby TXGrunt » Sun Nov 07, 2010 11:44 pm

I did a Continental Airlines repaint on a Carenado Piper Arrow. Something different! I saved the file as a BMP which is what the original image was. Now when I go to select that texture from FS9 it crashes to desktop! Did I save the image wrong?

I have no way of knowing that, but my first thought is to double check your changes to the aircraft.cfg for the new texture. We often make some small error/typo that keeps it from showing up or some other problem.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

What program did you use to do the repaint & save?

Not all .bmp files are the same, and if you saved as the wrong one, this would cause your problem.  ;)

Did you call it into DXT.BMP and resave as an extended biutmap???.....if not your sim will crash as you describe.

First, if you don't have it, you will need the program, DXTBmp.
You can download it here, and it is free: http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm

Next, open the original texture that you are going to repaint in DXTBmp, and note what format it is,

like this:

Now, at this point, it's probably a good idea to save a copy as a 24bit .bmp,
as this is what most graphics programs work with.

This can be done like so:

NOTE! - don't save this copy in the same folder, as it will overwrite the original file!! Save the copy in a different location.

I dont think that is the exact program but this is what it came out to when converted to BMP from PSD.

DXTBMP won't do that to you, and will replace that program you are using.

You won't need to convert from bmp to PSD, just do as I mentioned above and save as a 24bit bmp and Photoshop will treat it as a psd.

Don't forget that you may need to reapply the alpha channel using DXTBmp.  ;)
