Texture problem...

A great entry on the design ladder, repainting can be rewarding & fun! Learn how here! (Not for repaint requests)

Texture problem...

Postby patchz » Wed Jan 27, 2010 9:45 pm

[color=#000000]Anyone have an idea what might cause this, and how to fix it? The aircraft are Ranchojen's C150 VT and VT2.

How it looks in the Sim:

How it looks in DXTBmp:

Second aircraft, how it looks in the Sim:

Thanks.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

That's because the wing and control surfaces are separately textured.  Basically what I'm saying is that their is a small gap inbetween the wing texture and the other textures. ;)

Mr. P,

If you look at my edit of your pic, you will see I have circled 2 panel lines that show up on the texture sheet and not on the plane.

That part of the texture sheet, between those 2 lines does not get used.

To fix this, you have to slide part of the gradient down to compensate for the missing section.

This can be a bear to get right, trial and error is what it takes. I would have 2 seperate layers, 1 for the wing and 1 for the aileron. Does your paint program support masks?

To better visualize what is happening, go here - http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/ ... finder-40/

...and download the panelfinder.

Apply it to your texture sheet, and load it in the sim and you can better see what is going on.

To see the panelfinder in action, look here - http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaB ... 1253095551

Hope this helps, if not I am happy to try again.

cheers,
Joe

[color=#000000]I see what you mean Joe. But why is it just the right wing? The left one is fine. Is it an error on the designer/builder's part?
Also, I tried to download the map but it just sat there and never got to the point where I choose the location to save it. I'll try again later.
Thanks.

I tried all 3 download buttons on that page and they all worked for me, using Firefox.

If you can't get it there, PM me with an e-mail and I will send it to you.

As to why modelers map textures in ways that make repainting difficult, I stopped trying to figure that out a while back. Saves on medical bills resulting from me pounding my head on hard surfaces.

Aligning mismatches like this is, for me, the most difficult part of repainting. And sometimes there is simply no way to make FS display what we see in our mind.

cheers,
Joe
