Cockpit canopy to dark, need help please.

Postby Helmetfire » Fri Jul 06, 2007 1:05 pm

Hello all.

Not sure if I have posted this in the correct section but...

I have the IRIS F4 Phantom, which although is a very nice attempt, has one very annoying feature.
The canopy glass is WAY to dark, which makes it almost impossible to land in virtual cockpit mode.
Can anyone please talk me through step by step the process to make the canopy & HUD glass clear (including which files I need to work on), or I can e-mail them to you if you feel like doing it for me...

Many thanks in advance.

tricky, as I don't know the model, but in principle, what you need to do is make the alphachannel for the canopy glass black (that makes it transparant), so you'll have to find the right texture file, use DXTbmp to see the alpha channel, export it to your graphic program, edit it, use DXTbmp again to add the alpha back to the bitmap and drop it back in your texture folders.
Sounds easy, no?

Good luck,

Jan Kees

Just one question, have you contacted IRIS and what was their answer? Jankees, if you change it to straight black then it will become absolutely clear, these textures have reflective characteristic's.

I have tried to edit the vc_glass_t.bmp file, but it does not change.
I must be doing something wrong, but I hav'nt a clue what.
I could always e-mail the file to someone if they wanted to have a go :)

It *may* not be a problem that can be fixed with a texture repaint.  It may be that the vc glass material was made "too dark".   (Disclaimer:  My indicating "too dark"  is a matter of opinion, but I have found some models to yes, have "inside"  glass modelled too dark for my tastes.)

There are some modellers that either do not model "inside"  glass at all, or at most, provide a mere "hint"
